The Marcello Giordani Young Artist Program provides gifted young singers, pianists, and stage directors opportunities to study and perform with leading opera professionals during a 6-week residency at the Crested Butte Music Festival. Begun in 2008, the program has grown from 35 to over 400 applicants each year, who compete for the 10-12 apprentice positions. In 2013, participants will undergo a rigorous training program that includes 40 hours per week of vocal and dramatic instruction along with dance and fitness training. Students will perform roles in the festival's production of Rossini's The Barber of Seville, collaborate on a double-bill with the Opera Children's Chorus, present an evening of opera scenes, perform in concert with the Festival Symphony Orchestra and sing in public masterclasses given by tenor Marcello Giordani, mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato, and dramaturg Cori Ellison. Please join us for a thrilling summer of vocal and dramatic fireworks presented by these outstanding young artists.
