Marcello Giordani Young Artist Program 2013: June 16 – July 28

We will notify the participants of our live-auditions within the next few days about the results.

The Marcello Giordani Young Artist Program provides gifted young singers, pianists, and stage directors opportunities to study and perform with leading opera professionals during a 6-week residency at the Crested Butte Music Festival. Young Artists receive a housing waiver, a $500 stipend, and are eligible for the Rosalind Jackson Memorial Award of $1,000 and the Mike Martin Memorial Award of $1,000.

Audition Material:
• Headshot and resume
• Audio tape of 2 arias in contrasting styles and languages
• If called for a live audition, prepare 3 additional arias in contrasting styles and languages

Training:
• 40 hours of instruction and/or coaching per week
• Perform and cover roles in Rossini's The Barber of Seville, conducted by Maestro David Stern (Israel Opera House, Tel Aviv)
• Perform in a cover run of Rossini's The Barber of Seville with orchestra
• Perform in aria and ensemble concert with orchestra
• Perform in fully-staged opera scenes program, public Masterclasses, and community/donor events
• Physical training sessions 3 times a week with Keith Miller, Metropolitan Opera
• Dance instruction with Linda Gelinas, Metropolitan Opera
• Outdoor experiences with Wilderness Pursuits, a guided program offered by Western
  State Colorado University in rafting, kayaking, and other outdoor sports
• Housing provided

Audition Material:

If called for a live audition, prepare the following 3 selections:
• La bohème: Beginning of opera until Schaunard's entrance
• Le nozze di Figaro: "Porgi amor"
• Salome: "The Dance of the Seven Veils" (first 3 pages only)

Training:
• Coach and prepare Young Artists for cover roles in Rossini's The Barber of Seville
• Coach Young Artists and perform in opera scenes program
• Coach and prepare Young Artists in additional scenes, arias and roles as needed
• Perform in Masterclasses and community/donor events
• Receive musical and pianistic instruction from YAP faculty

Assistant Director Apprentice:

Interview Material
• Headshot, resume and brief biography
• 2 letters of recommendation / reference
• A brief statement of interest
• Candidates will be interviewed in December, 2012—in NYC or by phone

Training:
• Assist the professional directing staff in the production of Rossini's The Barber of Seville
• Assist in all technical and organizational aspects of production as needed
• Assist in the preparation of additional scenes and community/donor events
• Attend dance, drama and master classes with the other Young Artists
