Bluegrass In Paradise Announces 10 Bands for July 4th Weekend
with Headliners Sam Bush and Drew Emmitt
CRESTED BUTTE, Colo. (May 1, 2013) – Bumping up the fourth annual Bluegrass In Paradise to July 1 – 7 promises to help turn the first week of July into a major celebration of Americana up and down the Gunnison-Crested Butte Valley. Crested Butte Music Festival (CBMF) has secured 10 top bands from around the country to perform July 6 – 7 and recruited Denver-based Swallow Hill Music School to lead Bluegrass Kids Camp on July 1 – 5, and free adult guitar, mandolin and violin workshops for all levels on July 7.
In addition to Bluegrass in Paradise, there are major Independence Day celebrations in Gunnison, Crested Butte and Mt. Crested Butte, and the iconic 113th annual Cattlemen's Days in Gunnison launches on July 6 and runs until July 14.
Expect hard-driving, energetic bluegrass and newgrass throughout the July 6 – 7 weekend with local newgrass great Drew Emmitt serving as host and leading The Paradise All-Star Band, a compilation of musicians including Sam Bush, Larry Keel & Natural Bridge and more from the various performing bands.

Soak up majestic scenery and enjoy great music in a family-friendly environment as bands play from 1 – 9 p.m. both days at the base of Crested Butte Mountain Resort in Mt. Crested. A weekend pass costs $110 and a one-day ticket is $60. Kids ages 12 and under attend free when accompanied by an adult purchasing a ticket.
Free Tent Camping
Free tent camping for concert-goers will be available starting Friday, July 5 at 5 p.m. with checkout by 10 a.m. on Monday, July 8. "The town is excited to again offer free camping on town property in a beautiful mountain setting with potable water available, port-a-potties, a community fire ring and free transportation to and from the concert venue only five minutes away," says Mt. Crested Butte Town Manager Joe Fitzpatrick. Festival-goers interested in free tent camping should reserve their space online.
Swallow Hill Music's Bluegrass In Paradise Kids Camp
Swallow Hill Music School, Denver's premier music school since 1979 and the second largest folk music school in the country, will be leading Bluegrass Kids Camp for students ages 7 to 17 on July 1 – 5. The camp will run from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day in Mt. Crested Butte. Participants will explore a diverse range of traditional bluegrass instruments in a fun and supportive environment. Enrollment is limited to 60 students. The tuition cost is $260, which includes a learning packet.
Free Adult Workshops
This year, free guitar, mandolin and violin workshops for all levels will run from 11 a.m. to noon on July 7 at Lodge at Mountaineer Square in Mt. Crested Butte. Faculty from the Swallow Hill Music School will run workshops.
